Derek Lawlor S/S2010
We love us some Derek Lawlor here at fashion156. A piece from his genius Japanese Body Armour inspired graduate collection took centre stage in our Grey Issue, and - with it always a pleasure to see new designers navigate the unsteady waters of the industry - I was delighted that he showed at London Fashion Week.
I sadly didn't make it to the show - a recurring fashion week theme it seems - but when the above Images from his S/S2010 Lookbook landed in the email, they were deemed immediately blogworthy. Taking his signature circular wax cord embellishment, Derek lightened the weight of his pieces, resulting in a collection which balanced the wearable with incredible workmanship, managing to marry commercial concerns with boundary pushing.
Captured in black and white, the monochromatic shots echoing the palette of Derek's pieces offer a valuable close-up glance, transforming what could from a distance appear to be a print into a textural showcase. Only two seasons in and Derek's already making waves (or circles) in the industry, lets just wait and see where he goes next...
