DEREK LAWLOR – LONDON FASHION WEEK AW 11/12

Derek Lawlor

Presented at The Russian Club on Kingsland Road, Derek Lawlor showcased his new collection as part of the Circuit-Collective. The collection showed Lawlor’s talent as a knitter, how he manipulates and makes those machines do what he wants. He makes it seem that there are limitless possibilities with knitwear and like other knitters showing he questions and pushes the boundaries of this craft.

The collection comprised of dresses and separates in muted colours. The silhouette was layered up, mixing printed chiffon with his knit. Bodices were softly structural, fluid lines woven through one another creating 3-d shapes against the body. The prints by Alex Strang reflected and pushed this twisted, interwoven idea beautifully. A  stunning 3-layered dress, featured this print over a layer of dove grey chiffon over the final layer of Lawlor’s signature knit. The effect was quite beautiful as textures and colour tones sat perfectly next to one another.

The collection felt more wearable then in previous seasons, but just as innovative, just in a more refined manner.
