GEORGIA HARDINGE – LONDON FASHION WEEK AW12 WOMENSWEAR

Being backstage at Freemason’s Hall is a delight, as is being front of stage, or in fact anywhere. It’s testament to the creativity of London that the shows always manage to meld the best of history with the best of cutting edge avant-garde. Over the past few season’s Georgia Hardinge has made quite an impact at London Fashion Week with her sculptural silhouettes, winning the ‘Merit Award’ in 2011 and consistently garnering rave reviews. Her cultural references are diverse, and her passion for architectural shapes shines through, especially in her choice of the artist Rachel Whiteread as a prevailing influence.

Her concepts are comprehensively backed up by her technique. The burst of print this season was achieved from her signature resin cast method whereby painted and manipulated coloured transparency is worked into with spirograph techniques. Much as this may be baffling to the less technically-minded of us, it certainly packs a punch.
The colour palette for AW was shot through with bright pops of cobalt blue, dusty burgundy and a delicious citrusy mustard yellow, topped off with castoreno style hats, showing a Flamenco influence that has cropped up through may of today’s shows. But the jewel in the crown was reserved for the final look in which origami panels created a proscenium arch at the hips, placed to reveal a suggestive print beneath. All in all, another hit show for Hardinge.
