MANUELA DACK – LONDON FASHION WEEK SS13

Perhaps not surprisingly for the summer collections, white has been prominent at a number of shows. The white at Manuela Dack featured contrasting textures from softest silks to leather. Citing influences ranging from tropical greenhouses to architectural lines and organic shapes, her Caribbean upbringing was most evident in the traditional palm weaving techniques that were employed on the somewhat more unconventional patent leather to create skirts that looked contemporary and edgy but eminently wearable.

The shoes (jelly shoes from Juju) were an inspired choice and added an element of fun to what was otherwise a sophisticated and beautifully finished collection. Like with Miuccia Prada’s designs, the experimentation was all below the waist with an array of skirts using fringing, latice weaving and pleating. The leather was best employed in tasseled form, as a take on the peplum and teamed with beautiful blouses complete with sheer panelling.

A selection of 1930s-style pyjama pieces completed the presentation, in softest dove greys and ubiquitous white. Backless, and rendered in luxury fabrics, they would make the perfect choice for chic Riviera lounging.
