ARTIST – ANOUK VOGEL

Anouk Vogel is a Swiss artist who studied landscape architecture in Manchester and opened her own practice in Amsterdam in 2007.

The above images, shot by Jeroen Musch, show Vogel’s stunning garden in Nagasaki, Japan, as part of a project called ‘folding for peace’, commissioned by the Gardening World Cup. The 24 square meter garden was completely made up of hand folded flowers and took 15 people two weeks to make. I think that the patience that was needed when she brought the design to life shines through the work and it radiates a certain calmness.

The message behind the garden is based on a Japanese legend that promises a wish, such as long life recovery from illness or injury, to anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes and so ‘the folding for peace garden is the physical remain of a wish for world peace’, at the same time it shows that you don’t need a high budget to create something beautiful.
