PHOTOGRAPHER – WARD ROBERTS

Melbourne based photographer Ward Roberts takes minimalism to the next level with his aesthetically symmetrical square photographs. His latest series “Courts” captures the stillness of empty sports courts at times that they aren’t being used. The raw colour in each photo brings out the still atmosphere and you can feel the left over energy and vibes that take place each time a game is on.

There is something so special about Ward’s photography. He meets the fine line of simplicity with such stunning compositions. I really feel connected to his images as I play basketball myself, and there is something powerful about an empty court that I can’t quite put my finger on. This isn’t the only series where Ward Roberts perfects his effortless style – “Minimum” pushes the boundaries of minimalism even more, whereas with the series “Billions”, Ward overlays to create more busier compositions. You can browse both series on his website.
